Encounter Templates allow users to insert pre-defined set of text within encounter notes to avoid repetitive typing. Once inserted, the encounter notes can be edited as desired or additional templates can be inserted.

Encounter Templates are not user specific and are shared among all users. Please edit existing Templates with care as other users may be utilizing them.
Creating A New Encounter Template:
- Navigate to eChart of any patient
- Click on Templates dropdown at the top of the notes bar and select New / Edit Template
(OR: Navigate to Administration > eChart > Insert a Template)
- Input desired value into Template Name
- Input desired text into Template Text
- Click Save
Inserting An Encounter Template Into a Note
There are two ways to insert an encounter template into a note;
Method 1: searching and selecting template via typeahead
- Navigate to eChart of desired patient
- Locate the eForm/Note search field (at the top of the notes section on the left side)
- Type desired template name (eg. SOAP)
- Select desired template
Result: Content of Encounter Template is inserted into the encounter note. Note can be edited and additional templates can be inserted as needed.
Method 2: using keyboard shortcut
- Navigate to eChart of desired patient
- In the encounter note section, type the exact name of the template followed by a backward slash (\).
For example, if the name of the template is "SOAP 3 - Dr. Sam", type the following directly into the note:
SOAP 3 - Dr. Sam\
Result: Short code is automatically converted into the associated Template. Note can be edited and additional templates can be inserted as needed.
