0:00 Hi there. In today's video, we are going to be going over how to use templates for your encounter notes. So I'm just going to open up a patient's clinical chart using the e-shortcut from our scheduled appointment.
0:15 That's loading for us the patient's e-chart. Now, templates can be used to populate within your Encounter Notes section. The templates come with your system, and there is also the ability to create new ones or edit any of the existing ones already.
0:32 Now, in order to populate a template into your notes section, there are two ways of doing that. You have a search option.
0:41 So if I start typing in the name of a template, that'll come up for me to select, and then that's going to populate it into our notes section.
0:50 That is one way that you are able to populate the template. The second way would be using a type ahead shortcut.
0:59 In order to do that, you need to first type out the entire name of the template, so such as Asthma, and that's going to be followed by a backslash with no space.
1:11 By entering in the backslash beside it, it is then going to populate for us the template for us to utilize within our notes section.
1:20 Now, in order to edit or create any of your own templates, you can do that also a number of ways.
1:28 You'll have the option from any patient's chart, and selecting from the templates dropdown, new edit template. And that'll open for you a new window for us to create a new template.
1:41 This can also be done from our administration panel. I'm going to go into administration. I'm going to go into eChart along the left and then insert a template.
1:57 And that'll open up for us that same window that we were just looking at within the patient's chart. Now, in order to edit any of the ones that are on the system, you'll have the drop down along the top where you're able to select one and click edit.
2:12 That'll populate the template. In the text box for you to make any adjustments as needed. Now, to create any of your own that you wish to create, we're going to give it a name by typing that in the template name box.
2:28 And then you'll have your text area. We're able to fill in the information that you wish to populate within your template.
2:38 Now, you can also add spaces, how you wish it to populate when you are using it within the chart. And then you will have your save at the bottom.
2:50 Once a template has been created, it would then be available within the patient's chart. So, if we just open up our chart again, from here, I'm just going to search for the training one that we just created.
3:04 We'll see that that's coming up for me to select, and that's going to populate with our spacing that we had created.
3:10 After you're done with any of your templates that you've used in your encounter notes, you just want to ensure that you're using one of your sign options in order to close off and save that note.
3:24 That would be concluding today's video on how to utilize templates for your encounter notes. You can check out our help portal for additional videos and articles. Thanks!
