Performance Enhancements

We’ve introduced a dedicated category to highlight updates focused on improving OSCAR Pro's performance.

Since Q3 of 2024, the OSCAR Pro Team has implemented an industry leading data analytics platform to better understand how the system performs both individually and across the platforms. This enables us to address performance related issues over time and optimize loading speeds throughout the EMR.

Examples of performance improvements can include:

Streamlining database queries for faster loading of EMR sections.
Reducing errors in the system to ensure smoother performance tracking.
Implementing query timeouts to prevent delays from long running processes and queries.
Adjusting workflows to minimize unnecessary loading steps.

Individual Pro UI (User Interface) Toggles

This release introduces the ability to enable or disable the Pro UI (User Interface) for individual modules, including Prescriptions, Inbox, and Ontario Invoice.

This provides users with greater control over their preferred interfaces, reducing the need for some users to switch between Pro or Classic (depending on module).

Additionally, we have made changes to enhances data collection, giving our teams deeper insights into interface usage per module.

Pro UI Prescriptions Module Improvements

The Pro Rx module is updated to improve efficiency, visibility, and provide a more unified user experience across various modules.

All changes are visual only and should have no impact on underlying functionality.

The following changes/improvements were implemented:

Improved button and text colours to increase visibility and move towards a consistent user experience.
Cursor is focused into drug search upon opening Rx module. User can start typing in desired drug to search right away.
Favourites search field is easier to access and click into.
Removed unused sections like the green sidebar (on the left) to provide more room for content.
Moved the "Instruction Examples" button to the instructions line for easier access.
Adjusted padding to remove unnecessary space, providing more information on the page and reduce scrolling.
Updated button and text colours in Clinical Communication and Renewal Requests PrescribeIT section to improve visibility and consistency.
Set fixed height for modals to prevent sections from jumping around and allowing for more efficient clicking actions.
Relocated the ability to bulk apply ReRx to the top of the page for easier accessibility

Improvements

OSCARPRO-5294 – Set PRO UI Preferences by Module (Billing, Inbox, Rx)

Users can now toggle between the Pro or Classic UI by individual module. Clicking the standard OSCAR Pro logo to switch between the UI's reveals three options to enable or disable Pro UI for Ontario Invoice, Inbox, or Prescriptions

OSCARPRO-6187 – Inbox move toast location so it does not cover important functionality causing the user to have to wait

The temporary action prompts in Inbox are moved to the middle bottom of the page. This helps prevent them from blocking other buttons at the top right. Some examples of actions that cause prompts:

OSCARPRO-5100 – Replace "Remove" button with standard remove icon in Attachment Manager widget

The Attachment Manager widget available in eForms, Smart Encounter Form and elsewhere now displays a consistent remove icon (instead of a button with "Remove" text).

OSCARPRO-6314 – Enhance display enrollment status setting

The setting to display Enrollment Status and Provider on schedule now includes additional Enrollment Statuses such as Terminated (TE), Not Enrolled (NE) or any other status set in the master record.
Terminated status appears in Red text, while all other statuses are in Black
The setting can be enabled under Administration > Schedule Settings > Display Settings > Display Enrollment Status (Roster) and Enrollment Physician name on schedule

OSCARPRO-6346 – Ticklers sorting by message column or others (Classic)

The Message column in the Tickler Module can now be clicked to sort tickler messages in alphabetical order
Users can order the ticklers in this matter to batch process similar ticklers together, improving efficiency.

OSCARPRO-6347 – Fix oscar login page scaling

Ensures that the login page scales better when using smaller or bigger monitors

OSCARPRO-6435 – Update close button in Link Patient Search Modal

Improves the Link User Interface (UI) by updating the X button to close modal window

OSCARPRO-6438 – Rx Layout change to suit variety of commonly used screen sizes

Minor adjustments to improve loading and visibility of Rx module on smaller screen sizes.
For example, certain buttons are no longer missing when using a tablet sized screen.

OSCARPRO-6440 – Rx Use well-ui styling for Buttons

Updates the colour scheme and style for some of buttons and links in the Rx module.
The main button and link colour is dark green, improving visibility across the board
Provides a more consistent experience
Font size is decreased in favourites to increase amount of content visible

OSCARPRO-6441 – Rx Favorites search field

The Favourite field in Rx is now click through and easier to use:

OSCARPRO-6442 – Rx Move Instructions to a better location and use icon instead

The "Instructions Example" function is converted to an icon and moved to the instruction line for easier access.
This function shows a user all the previous instructions saved by other providers for this specific drug
Clicking an instruction line autopopulates into the instructions line of current prescription being written

OSCARPRO-6443 – Rx Set focus to Drug Name field upon page open

When the Rx module is opened, the cursor is automatically focused to the Drug Name field
This allows a user to stop typing a prescription name right away, saving a click

OSCARPRO-6444 – Rx Remove left hand panel

The left Green bar is removed, providing additional space for other content.

OSCARPRO-6508 – Remove animation / pop-out of discrete Pro-Rx fields

Removes animation that increases field size in the Pro Rx module and replaces it with a highlighted border

OSCARPRO-6447 – Make modal height consistent within Pro UI interfaces

Keeps the modal window in various sections of the Rx Module in the same place. So that if the Allergies section is opened, searching for allergies or adding new ones does not cause the window to change in size.

OSCARPRO-6439 – Fix and Standardize Padding and Margin on the Pro-RX Page

Provides more consistent spacing around elements within the Rx UI to improve the look and feel of the interface. Applicable to numerous sections.

For example, the padding (white space) around the Manage Pharmacy section is reduced so that more information can fit within the page

OSCARPRO-6436 – Update Link Encounter Note modal

Improves the Link User Interface by ensuring the Covering Encounter modal is consistent with other Link UI elements. Provides a consistent user experience.

OSCARPRO-6252 – View (GET) HRM from Primary Chart in Covering Chart

Introduces the ability for covering clinics to see HRM in the eChart if the Link Module is enabled.

OSCARPRO-6225 – Link Status Component To Update Status upon Hover

Hovering over the Link Status Icon presents the most recent Link Status for the associated demographic.

Performance

OSCARPRO-6361 – Stop automatic searching on caseload page

When opening the Caseload module, searching does not occur automatically. User must click the Search button to trigger a desired search.

This helps prevent the Caseload from loading data unnecessarily and improve system performance.

OSCARPRO-6269 – Apply index to casemgmt_issue demographic_no

A patch from the OSCAR community is applied to help speed up loading of Encounter Notes in eChart. A database index is applied alongside it to increase performance further.

OSCARPRO-6307 – Ops: Slow query when loading consultations

Updates the database query used to create a new Consultations. Improves performance and loading speed when opening a new Consultation, especially for larger systems.

OSCARPRO-6408 – Create index / further investigation for lab uploads

Updates the database query used to upload new GDML labs into OSCAR (automatically). The query has been cleaned up to remove unnecessary calls. This helps improve system performance overall by reducing ongoing load.

OSCARPRO-6166 – PRO Billing History Loading only if history maximized for performance

The updated Ontario Invoice UI now prevents the loading of Billing History in the invoice if the user minimizes the section.

This can help increase loading speed time of invoices for those who do not rely on Billing History regularly.

Once a user minimizes the Billing History section, it will remain minimized going forward for all invoices until expanded again.

OSCARPRO-6478 – Create a ITelemetryProvider interface and implement AzureApplicationInsightsProvider

Improves on the ability for our various internal teams to gather usage data around products and performance metrics.

OSCARPRO-6479 – Implement TelemetryService Interface and DefaultTelemetryService Class with DI Configuration

Improves on the ability for our various internal teams to gather usage data around products and performance metrics.

OSCARPRO-6363 – Optimize Demographic HIN Search in REST API

Optimizes the query used to search HIN via the REST API. Enhances performance by reducing system strain during frequent searches.

OSCARPRO-6419 – Investigate caseload run-on query failing to halt with tomcat reset

Introduces a timeout element for Caseload queries. If the query fails to load after 60 seconds, it will be terminated to reduce system strain. An error appears to the user to advise what has occurred.

OSCARPRO-6506 – Improve Caseload encounter_type query

Improves the Caseload query to target a the specific demographic number when obtaining the encounter appointment date. Targeting a specific demographic prevents Caseload from searching all notes for all demographics and thus significantly increasing the loading time of the query.

Bugs

OSCARPRO-2602 – "Back" Button on OLIS Search Results Redirects to Incorrect URL

Clicking the "Back" button when there are no OLIS results now brings the user back to the correct demographic to perform another search

OSCARPRO-2618 – addDocument Not Setting Observation Date when using REST API

When adding documents via REST API the Observation Date is now included in the database.

OSCARPRO-2643 – Fax button clickable in Rx despite missing signature

The Fax fields are grayed out/inaccessible in Classic Rx if Preferred Pharmacy and Signature is missing from prescription. Once Preferred Pharmacy or Signature is added, the fax buttons become clickable

OSCARPRO-2653 – Some WISIWYG Smart Encounter elements fail to appear on Print output

Bullet points, Numbered lists, and checkboxes set in the Smart Encounter Form content now successfully appear in the PDF printout

OSCARPRO-2673 – Unable to exclude patients in BC Dashboard due to demographicExt constraint

Resolves issue associated with excluding certain patients in the BC Dashboard report

OSCARPRO-2755 – OSCAR Pro attempts to connect to eOrder server despite not having credentials set up

Prevents systems from attempting to connect to the eOrder integration unless the integration is actively set up.

OSCARPRO-3979 – Reason Dropdown set in Appointment Type fails to select in Create Appointment

Fixed issue that was causing the Reason Dropdown selection not to display when selecting an appointment type, despite the specific type having a Reason Dropdown configured.

The appropriate Reason is now displaying when selecting Type in appointment.

OSCARPRO-4679 – Demographic Service Error 500 When DemographicContact Record Contains a contactId with a Leading Zero

Prevents a 500 error from occurring via REST API when provider numbers start with 0's.

OSCARPRO-5034 – Access Control does not restrict Month or C provider schedule access

When a provider is set to be excluded from schedule dropdown via the Access Control configuration, they are now also properly excluded when using the custom "C" function to create a schedule.

OSCARPRO-5375 – Apostrophe in email field breaks create invoice in classic view

The Ontario Classic Invoice codes no longer fail to load if patient has an apostrophe in their Master Record email field.

OSCARPRO-5518 – Family Doctor Full Name Formatting and Trailing Space Issue in Smart Encounter Form

The Family Doctor tag in the Smart Encounter Form no longer displays a large text space.

OSCARPRO-5671 – Percentage code units inaccurate in generated billing files

Fixes issue with percentage calculations due to specific workflows after OHIP file is generated.

OSCARPRO-5710 – Unable to write special character in tickler on cme_js = eyeform3

Using special characters like & in the Arrange Plan no longer causes text to be missing after paste.

OSCARPRO-5816 – Pro UI Invoicing saves incorrect Service Date if User Backdates Date (backend issue)

Resolves an issue with the service date in invoice not being saved correctly when a timezone outside of EST is set on the local computer.

OSCARPRO-5817 – Mitte field can omit digits in Classic Rx

Resolves issue associated with digits not displaying on Prescription after save when a specific set of values is used within the "Qty/Mitte" field. eg. "100 tabs q 100 days".

OSCARPRO-5866 – Empty or null column names will cause 'An SQL Query Error has Occurred'

An SQL error no longer occurs if a Report by Template (RBT) query includes an empty column value. The RBT loads successfully.

OSCARPRO-5915 – ExcellerisON Labs Report Date Incorrect in Inbox

Ensures the correct Report Date is set for Excelleris ON (LifeLabs) lab results in the Inbox view.

OSCARPRO-6029 – HL7 Labs in BC with Embedded PDFs Do Not Appear When Faxing Consultations

BC lab files that have embedded PDF's can now be successfully included as attachments within Consultations.

OSCARPRO-6045 – Duplicate long term (LT) drugs can sometimes appear when clicking ReRx All Long Term Medications

Prevents a race condition that may cause drugs to display multiple times when using the "ReRx All Long Term Medications"

OSCARPRO-6061 – Archived OHIP RCX xml files unable to open since build 1.11 upgrade

RCX xml files can now successfully open despite being in the Archive section of the View MOH Files.

OSCARPRO-6110 – Encounter Chart expands due to lack of text wrapping

When an Encounter Note includes a very long string (without any spaces), it no longer causes the eChart to increase in size horizontally.

OSCARPRO-6251 – Remote preventions do not respect e-chart colouring on the Covering Clinics

Resolves a bug in the Link module where prevention colour codes are not respected.

OSCARPRO-6277 – Eform posted by covering clinic not rendered correctly by other covering clinics from primary clinic

Resolves a bug in the Link module associated with the display of eForms.

OSCARPRO-6313 – Enrollment status is set to 'EN' rather than 'RO' when reconciling RCX

The RCX reconcile file now updates to the correct status in the database for rostered patients.

OSCARPRO-6315 – last_value Measurement Tags Slow to Query and Load

Addresses an issue causing eForms with measurement tags (eg. oscarDB=e$last#FUYear) causing slow eForms loading after database version upgrade.

OSCARPRO-6337 – eDocs - Public docs not all showing in the Attachment Manager

The Attachment Manager now displays both Private and Public eDocs. Public eDocs are ones that are made available to use for all users in OSCAR.

OSCARPRO-6339 – Order Of Providers In Group Ignored When Selecting A "Site" On A Multisite Clinic

When Multisite is enabled, selecting a specific site or location now displays providers in the same order defined in Manage Groups. This ensures a consistent order of names when a Schedule Group is selected, whether viewing All Clinic or a specific site/location.

OSCARPRO-6344 – eForm items originating from covering chart generate as blank in PDF via Attachment Manager

Addresses an issue causing Linked eForms not to generate the PDF content when using the Attachment Manager.

OSCARPRO-6351 – Link status tooltips are incorrect

Corrects the tooltip text when hovering over the Link module icons

OSCARPRO-6353 – REST (FHIR) API - Improve error handling for schedule template issues

Requesting an OSCAR Template via FHIR API now presents an error to the requesting party if the template does not exist.

OSCARPRO-6395 – Prevent longstanding TemplateFlowSheetPage Catalina error from occurring

Eliminates a long standing error occurring in the backend of OSCAR when opening an eChart. Reduces logging noise and helps improve performance.

OSCARPRO-6412 – Assigning certain issues to a note results in improper display

Fixes the display of the note in the Encounter Roll when certain issues are assigned to the note. Specific to the Link integration only.

OSCARPRO-6421 – eForms no longer ordering by form_time

Restores previous ordering of eForms that share same date in the eChart. The eForm with the most recent time is showing at the top.

OSCARPRO-6501 – Error 500 after clicking 'save' on an empty eChart encounter note

Saving a blank encounter note no longer causes a 500 error after clicking the New Note button. The message "note cannot be blank" appears instead

OSCARPRO-6357 – 'NEW Billing' drop-downs at top not loading with billing form settings for new invoice

Addresses issues causing the new ON Invoice module not to respect the settings set in the Billing Form selected.

OSCARPRO-5867 – Antenatal OPR3 form printed pdf file is cutting off text on the Comments field

Prevents long comments in the Perinatal P3 page from being cut off when exporting to PDF.

OSCARPRO-4744 – Ability to Open Multiple charts when using eChart on Pro Document Item

It is no longer possible to open a second eChart when clicking the eChart link from an opened Document. Existing eChart window is updated with the associated patient.

OSCARPRO-3829 – Last Editor does not update when using eChart Sign and Bill in Pro UI

After saving an invoice from schedule, the "Last Editor" in Edit Appointment now correctly reflects that the appointment how been updated.

OSCARPRO-3197 – Saved Case Management Notes appear in the middle of the eChart

Resolves an issue on a specific eyeform configuration that is causing notes a note to appear in the middle of the encounter roll instead of at its associated date.

This release introduces numerous security improvements and fixes based on ongoing penetration testing and security assessments conducted by 3rd party agencies.

Eliminates a situation where the schedule refreshes indefinitely if the OSCAR Pro components fail to deploy correctly.

OSCARPRO-6735 – Ocean Schedule Sync fails with 500 error if patient on schedule has External Contact set

Addresses an issue causing Ocean sync not to work correctly.

OSCARPRO-6739 – Unable to validate HCV in ON in 1.13 - Gateway timeout

Restores ability to successfully use the Health Card validation in ON without it timing out after a certain time of day.

OSCARPRO-6629 – Ensure proper logic for Billing Site and Provider in New Billing

Modifies the code associated with selecting billing site and providers in the new Pro billing UI.

Message selected as Urgent will now pop up as expected for recipients when they visit the schedule or it refreshes.

OSCARPRO-6773 – Cannot save multiple Dx codes in Old-Pro-Billing

Multiple Dx codes can now be saved successfully in the Pro Billing UI.

OSCARPRO-6792 – Appointment Type not showing on schedule if display enroll status is also enabled

Fixes an issue that resulted in the Appointment Type not displaying on schedule if the Enrollment Status displayed. Now both are displaying successfully if configured.

OSCARPRO-6835 – Invoice history shows incorrect service date for Pro billing only

Adjusts the Service Date displaying at the bottom of the Pro Billing UI to ensure its the most correct date.

OSCARPRO-6839 – NULL value filled in the obr_date for certain ExcellerisON eLabs upload/parse

Some Excelleris/Lifelabs lab files will no longer enter NULL in the observation date database field.

Systems that do not have PrescribeIT enabled no longer try to initialize the application, improving system start up time and reduces unnecessary errors.

OSCARPRO-6763 – Update Oscar Classic ws endpoints to print at the DEBUG level instead of INFO

Eliminates INFO level logging that is not useful for API endpoints to reduce noise and improve ability to troubleshoot API issues in live systems.

OSCARPRO-6770 – OSCAR Classic pageUtil.LabUploadAction#getServerPrivate method logs Base64 encoded private key when uploading lab

Removes the Private Key from appearing in system logs during lab upload.

OSCARPRO-6901 – Most recently added service code is ignored for 'total' calculation on Improved Billing Experience

The total amount in the new Pro Create Invoice UI now displays the correct total when reviewing an invoice.

Fixes an issues causing systems with a very large number of eDocs to increase loading time for Attachment Manager. The query getting the data has been improved to a run time of less than 1 second.

OSCARPRO-6897 – Monthly View on Schedule No Longer Displays Provider Name

Name of provider is now appearing successfully in the Monthly calendar view for providers with a set schedule template.

Addresses an issue that caused certain notes to remove additional spacing that was previously displayed. Only occurred when the option to view Large eChart Font was enabled in Administration.

OSCARPRO-7028 – Property for Autofill billing date and location Loading Date in Incorrect Field

Ensures that the Admission Date, and not the Service Date is automatically inputted when the setting to do so is enabled.

OSCARPRO-7032 – "Failed to update label" appears when acknowledging labs in PRO inbox

Removes the erroneous error telling users that the label failed to update when acknowledging a Lab, when no changes to the label were done by the user.
