If you’re traveling or connecting from outside Canada, you may not be able to access OSCAR Pro due to our regional security restrictions. This article explains what a VPN is, how it works, and how it may help you connect securely.
What is a VPN?
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a secure connection between your device and the internet. It encrypts your data and routes it through a remote server in another location. This protects your privacy and can make it appear as though you’re connecting from a different country.
How it works (in plain language)
You open your VPN app.
The VPN creates a secure “tunnel” to a server in another country.
All your internet traffic passes through that tunnel.
Websites and systems see the VPN server’s location, not yours.
VPN access & our security policy
Short version: We don’t provide support for personal or third-party VPNs. For security, we block sign-ins to our systems from certain high-risk regions. If you’re traveling in (or routed through) a blocked region, a commercial VPN can help you securely access our systems by routing your traffic through an allowed location.
What we support (and don’t)
We do not support VPNs (personal, work, or third-party) and cannot troubleshoot VPN configuration.
We block access from specific geographies with high volumes of malicious traffic. This is a common security control to reduce credential-stuffing and other attacks.
If you’re in a blocked region (or appear to be):
-
Use a reputable commercial VPN to route your connection through an allowed country.
Example provider: NordVPN (widely supported across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, etc.). See their quick start and install guides.
Connect to a server in a nearby allowed country (closer is usually faster).
Retry signing in to our systems.
Note: A commercial VPN encrypts your traffic on untrusted networks (e.g., hotel Wi-Fi) and can help you appear from an allowed region. We still do not provide support for the VPN application itself.
Tips
Pick a server geographically close to your actual location (but outside blocked regions) for better performance.
If one server seems slow, switch to another within the same country.
Keep your VPN app up to date for security and stability.
FAQ
Why does the company block certain countries?
To reduce the risk of attacks and protect accounts and data, we restrict sign-ins from regions associated with elevated threat levels. Many organizations implement geo-based access controls for this reason.
Can support help me configure my VPN?
No. We’re unable to assist with VPN installation, configuration, or troubleshooting. Please use your VPN provider’s help center.
