- Administration; You can access this section by first clicking on the Administration located at the top of your main OSCAR schedule page.
- Labs/Inbox; Afterwards you will want to click on the Labs/Inbox option on the left navigation menu to reveal the sub-options.
- Lab Forwarding Rules; from there, you will want to click on Lab Forwarding Rules.
The lab forwarding rules can be a bit confusing so we will try to break it down to its individual components. On the day that you wish to implement your lab forwarding rules and forward the labs of one physician to another physician, you will want to come to this section of OSCAR. First, you will want to select the doctor's name this dropdown menu highlighted in [1] that you wish to have their labs forwarded.
Afterwards, you will then need to adjust all the settings outlined in [2]. I have highlighted each subcomponent into its own individual coloured box and we can review this a bit further:
We can try to illustrate this more clearly with a hypothetical situation.
Suppose that Dr. John Doe (12345) is planning to take a vacation and needs to have his labs forwarded to another physician for review during his absence. We will come to this settings page and will select Dr. John Doe's name in the dropdown menu highlighted [1].
Next we will proceed with setup the forwarding in section [2]
Orange: This controls the status of the reports under Dr. John Doe's name. If you wish the report to be auto-file from Dr. John Doe after it is forwarded, then you will want to set this to 'Filed'.
Conversely, if Dr. John Doe wishes to keep a copy in his inbox even after it is forwarded, you will then want to set this as 'New'
Green: This controls the status of the lab reports under Dr. John Doe after an action has been performed on the forwarded lab report.
If we try to illustrate this with existing hypothetical situation where a lab forwarding rule is established for Dr. John Doe's lab reports to our imaginary doctor, Dr. Mickey Mouse: - Keep Status: Nothing will happen to the report under Dr. John Doe when Dr. Mickey Mouse performs an action
- Update Status: When Dr. Mickey Mouse Files/Acknowledges the report, the report under Dr. John Doe's name will also then get filed or acknowledged
- Update Status only when Filed: When Dr. Mickey Mouse 'Files' a forwarded report, the status of the report Dr. John Doe's name will also get changed to 'Filed'. Nothing will happen when Dr. Mickey Mouse 'Acknowledges' the report.
These settings only affect the reports that were forwarded as a result of the lab forwarding rules. It will not retroactive apply to reports that were manually forwarded
Blue Box: In almost all cases, you will want all 3 to be checked off. However, if you only wish to have documents forwarded, then you will then check off Documents only.
Purple Box: This allows you to select the physician whom you wish to forward your lab report to. You can select more than one physician from this list by holding the CTRL key on your keyboard. Selected physicians will have their name highlighted in blue.
Yellow Box: In most cases, you will want this set to 'New Status'. If we take our Mickey Mouse example again...
- New Status: The forwarded report arrives in Dr. Mickey Mouse's inbox as 'New'
- Filed Status: The forwarded report to Dr. Mickey Mouse will also get immediately filed.
