In this video we will review how to write a new prescription to be either faxed or printed.
0:00 Hi there. In today's training video, we're going to be going over how to write a new prescription. Now, in order
to do that, we do need to open up our medications module.
0:11 Now, that can be done by using the Rx shortcut wherever you see that within the EMR. Additionally, we can click
on the E if you are within the patient's clinical chart.
0:21 We're going to use the word medications on the right-hand side. That will open up for us our medications
module for us to write a new prescription. Under the drug name up at the top is going to be where you're able to
search for a drug that will ping you.
0:37 Your drug database in order for you to select one. There is a scroll option. Once you have received some options
that you are able to search for.
0:47 Your cursor will then be placed in the doses instructions box in order for you to write out your doses instructions
0:58 You do have a option of using parsing and that will parse automatically for you after you've clicked your cursor
outside of the doses instructions box.
1:11 Ultimately if you do not wish to use the parsing you can manually fill in any of the boxes below as well.
1:18 You do also have an override all option up at the top of your prescription. That's all that'll disable your boxes
below.
1:26 You do have a pharmacy instructions box where you're able to type in any additional information that you would
like to relate to the pharmacist that will print on your printout of your prescription as well as be included in your fax.
1:43 Underneath your pharmacy box there are additional check boxes where you are able to assign additional
information to your prescription, something such as long-term or no substitutes.
1:53 You are able to enter in a valid date range should you require that. Controlled substance is an area where you're
able to indicate and assign a patient identification.
2:05 Card for that patient in order to utilize when they are going to pick up that controlled substance from the
pharmacy.
2:13 If you're only writing one drug, we would now be able to click on the save and print option. If we are writing a
secondary drug on top of that new prescription, we're going to scroll back up to the very top of our page in order to
access the drug name search again.
2:29 Where we are then able to search for a secondary drug. We're here able to type in the additional doses
instructions for the secondary drug.
2:43 Once we are completed with our prescription, we are able to scroll down to locate the save options. The chevron
will allow you to just do a save. That'll save the prescription underneath managed prescriptions in order to be
printed or faxed out at a later time.
2:59 The save and print will load it into your print preview in order to fax and print it out. The home delivery and
e-sign and print options are additional options here should you have those integrations within your EMR for Pill-A-
Way and Prescribe-I-T.
3:16 I'm going to use the Save and Print, and that is going to load it for us in our new file.
3:21 window. From here, it will load with your preset signature image from your preferences. Should you not have a
signature stamp set, you do have the actions box in the top corner where you are able to sign your signature with
your mouse.
3:38 In order to save that, we're going to click the sign, and that's going to load it onto your prescription as well.
3:45 You have an option here in order to add or remove the pharmacy information from your prescription. You also
have a destination pharmacy dropdown should the patient have chosen a different destination for the prescription.
4:00 We have our print and fax options. That would be concluding today's video on how to write a new prescription.
You can check out our help portal for additional videos. Thanks!
