What is Smart Encounter?
Smart Encounter is a form that, when enabled and configured, allows users to write all sorts of letters quickly and efficiently. By using pre-set templates created and managed by your system administrators, Smart Encounter makes letter writing more straightforward and less time-consuming. The templates can contain a mix of pre-set text, short codes, spacers, and database tags, which makes them versatile and customizable to your needs.
Smart Encounter Glossary
If you're not familiar with some of the terms used in the Smart Encounter feature, fear not! We've prepared a glossary of commonly used terms to help you understand and get started with the feature. The glossary explains terms such as database tags, short codes, spacers, templates, and Smart Encounter itself.
Database Tags – Database tags allow you to insert patient, appointment, provider or clinic information automatically into your letters.
Short Codes – Short Codes let you insert pre-set blocks of text to an in-progress letter using shortcut keywords.
Smart Encounter – This is the name of the Form used to write your letter. This can replace the “Rich Text Letter” and letter eForms previously used with OSCAR.
Spacers – Also known as ‘Fill-in Markers’, spacers identify areas of a template where additional text will need to be entered. Spacers can be cycled through easily using the ‘F4’ key on your keyboard.
Template – A Template is a pre-set letter which can be easily selected within the Smart Encounter form.
